Nepali Congress lawmaker Dhanraj Gurung has said that he will donate his increased pay to the earthquake relief fund.

In his tweet on Monday, lawmaker Gurung said that he has submitted an application to the parliament secretariat to transfer his increased pay to the relief fund.

‘I have sent an application to the parliament secretariat to transfer my increment to the earthquake relief fund,” read his tweet.

‘The reconstruction works are not being effectively carried out and the earthquake victims have not yet got the relief declared by government. To increase the pay and perks at this time is against the practice of the parliament,’ the application reads.

Despite criticism from all quarters, the Legislature-Parliament on Sunday endorsed a bill to the effect by a whopping 42 percent.

Parliament prioritised endorsement of the legislation putting aside other crucial issues including theoretical discussion on the impeachment motion against Lokman Singh Karki, the suspended chief of the Commission for investigation of Abuse of Authority. The bill to increase the pay was endorsed just in five days of it being tabled in Parliament for discussion.
